About the Series

Every adventure opens a different door.

Tales Beyond the Roll is a series of standalone fantasy adventures where unlikely heroes, unforgettable characters, and unexpected chaos come together in stories filled with heart and humor.

Each book opens the door to a different world, with its own characters, setting, and adventure. Some are a little more heartfelt. Some are a little more chaotic. Most are probably both.

There’s no required reading order and no enormous interconnected timeline to keep track of. You can simply choose the adventure that catches your attention and step inside.

Although the stories were inspired by characters and memories born around the gaming table, they aren’t retellings of the games themselves. Once these characters reach the page, their worlds expand, their stories change, and they get the chance to become something entirely their own.

Beyond the Roll

The story rarely went according to plan.

Some of my favorite adventures began with a perfectly reasonable plan.

They just didn’t stay reasonable for very long.

A simple journey might end with someone fighting piranhas in a shallow stream. A rowboat might suddenly acquire a flamethrower as a propulsion system. Six bears attempting to infiltrate a honey expo could turn a carefully planned heist into complete chaos. A dangerous encounter might be solved not with a sword, but with a hug.

And sometimes a misunderstanding is all it takes to permanently turn an ordinary ogre into the British Ogre.

Those moments were never planned. That was what made them memorable.

Tales Beyond the Roll grew out of adventures like these, shared around a gaming table where characters developed personalities of their own, jokes became lore, and the smallest unexpected moment could become the thing everyone remembered years later.

When those characters step onto the page, I don’t want to simply retell what happened at the table. Their worlds become larger, their stories take new paths, and they get adventures created entirely for them.

But I also don’t want to polish away the things that made me love them in the first place.

So somewhere beneath the new plots, new worlds, and new dangers, there will always be a little of that original chaos waiting to get loose.

Because sometimes the best part of the story is the part no one saw coming.

Side Quest

Keep Your Eyes Open.

Somewhere between the adventures, chaos, and close calls, a few familiar details may have slipped into the story. See how many you can catch.

Inside Jokes Recurring Objects Familiar Names Campaign Mischief

A familiar phrase. A suspiciously recognizable object. A name that sounds like you’ve heard it somewhere before. Each adventure stands entirely on its own, but readers who wander through more than one world may discover a few little surprises tucked along the way.

Think of it as a tiny scavenger hunt tucked between the chapters.

Coming Adventures

These stories are far enough along to start causing trouble.

Serafina Bluebloom

She has one job: keep her companions alive.

Unfortunately, Arjon builds explosive birthday machines, Xyros attracts trouble like it was personally invited, Hollis keeps befriending dangerous creatures, Elvi thinks nearly everything deserves a hug, and Mr. Honks is a goose with a concerning interest in arson.

When Xyros’s surprise birthday party is accidentally double-booked with a theatrical smuggling operation, one mistaken crate sends the group racing downriver after a stolen celebration machine and a villain with far too much confidence.

There will be living piñatas. There will be questionable rituals. There will almost certainly be fire.

And somewhere along the way, Serafina may discover that being the caretaker does not mean fixing everything alone.

Noelani Aqualon

She has spent her whole life surrounded by family, responsibility, and the certainty of home. Now, seventeen and determined to discover a calling of her own, she sets out for one year of service beyond everything she knows.

She expects ordinary work.

Instead, she finds a missing courier, disturbed graves, dangerous magic, and four unlikely companions who somehow become a second family.

As the trail leads toward a power-hungry vampire and experiments that should never have existed, Noelani must learn that kindness is not weakness, mercy has limits, and protecting the people she loves does not mean carrying every burden alone.

Sometimes the brightest light begins with a single bloom.

Mana Paws

Six bears. One honey expo. Absolutely no subtlety.

Mana Paws has never met a jar of honey she didn’t like, so when she discovers the biggest honey expo in Briarbridge, walking away is not an option.

The plan is simple: get in, find the honey vault, and get out before anyone notices.

Unfortunately, Mana’s crew includes two bears who think tunneling is a reasonable solution, a mafia-style boss, one very intimidating Russian, and several definitions of “necessary” property damage.

Between the disguises, the security, and a whole lot of stolen honey, keeping the heist under control becomes harder by the minute.

Mana came for the honey.

Getting everyone out in one piece may be the real challenge.

More Adventures Ahead

Still taking shape.

These stories are still in the layout stage, but their doors are already waiting.
